Philosophical Question of the Week March 31, 2010

If you do not understand financial markets, and are unwilling to learn, should you be invested in the markets?

Wall Street says yes, just trust us.

Even Warren Buffett has said yes, buy index funds.

But, do you really think investing in things you don’t understand, nor care to learn about is a good strategy?

Answer me this?

If you didn’t know how to swim, and didn’t spend any time learning, would you dive into the deep end of the pool?

You would really put your life in the hands of some lifeguard who might or might not notice you, might come to your rescue right away or might come 5 minutes from now?

Yet, folks jump into the deep end of the investment pool all the time and put their financial lives on the line……
